Toner Cartridge: Counterfeit and Compatible

Many people don’t realize that manufacturers actually make very little money on selling their printers. Manufacturers, in fact, are willing to make very little profit or no profit at all because they rely on the life of the printer to obligate the consumer to buy the brand name ink and toner cartridge.

It is a vicious cycle because the manufacturers have trouble raising the prices of the ink and toner cartridge. In fact, the United Kingdom is investigating into fairness of the prices of brand name cartridges. A magazine did a study that the brand name ink cartridges actually cost seven times more per milliliter than a 1985 bottle of Dom Perignon.

In a retaliation, many consumers are finding it very beneficial to steer away from the brand name cartridges and, instead, purchase remanufactured or compatible cartridges. Compatible cartridges or manufactured by third party vendors in an attempt to match the ink formula that the brand name companies use. Some compatible cartridges are better than others, depending on how close to the formula they have gotten.

There are some counterfeiters on the market that you must be aware of. Some companies produce compatible cartridges while passing them off as the brand name cartridge. They package their cartridges in a similar manner as the brand name companies. This is illegal, as consumers are sometimes tricked into buying the counterfeit version that doesn’t contain the full amount of ink and does not have the high quality of standards as they thought it would.

Remanufactured cartridges, on the other hand, are a great investment because they are half the price as the brand name cartridges. A remanufactured cartridge is simple a used cartridge that has been professionally cleaned and injected with new ink. It is great for the environment because this method reduces the amount of used cartridges in the landfills.
